If you have two days rather than three, this is the desert trip that fits. Zagora’s dunes are smaller than Erg Chebbi and the sand is greyer, but the drive down the Draa valley — 200 kilometres of continuous palm grove punctuated by earthen kasbahs — is arguably the better road.
The night is in a fixed camp on the edge of the sand, reached by a short camel ride, with dinner and drumming around the fire.
Over the Tizi n'Tichka with a stop at the pass, a guided walk through the ksar of Aït Ben Haddou, lunch in Ouarzazate, then south through the Anti-Atlas and down the Draa valley to Zagora. A short camel ride takes you to the camp for sunset, dinner and drumming.
Sunrise over the dunes and breakfast at camp, then the return north with stops in the Draa valley and at Ouarzazate, reaching Marrakech in the early evening.

Booked three things through Atlas Nomad in a week and every pickup was on time. The driver on the Agafay trip went out of his way to find us a quieter spot for the sunset.

A long day but the guide paced it well and never rushed us. Being able to pay the balance on the day made booking from home much easier.
